SEOUL Weekly: ‘Love is the Pain of Feverish Flowers’   Jan. 22, 2016 / Issue No. 715 ‘Love is the Pain of Feverish Flowers’ Seoul Selection releases collection of poetry by Kwon Cheonhak   Seoul Selection is happy to announce the release of Love is the Pain of Feverish Flowers, a collection of poems by poet Korean-born and Canada-based poet Kwon Cheonhak. Translated by the poet’s daughter, Kim Hana, the winner (along with John Mokrynskyj) of the Commendation Award in the 41st Modern Korean Literature Translations Awards and head of the Asian Library at the University of British Columbia, Kwon’s poetry is, according to poet and Lesley University professor Steven Cramer, “by turns melancholy, ironic, lyrical, irreverent.” About the collection, Brother Anthony of Taize, a literary translator and professor emeritus of Sogang University, wrote: The poems in this collection are located between a lost world and today’s modernity, poised between celebration and lamentation, as icons of loss and yearning. The reader is carried into unfamiliar spaces of scenery and also of language, as the translators retain echoes of the Korean originals, intent on transmitting each poet’s vision of an unfamiliar other place to readers who are eager to be transported. 엄마와 딸이 함께 쓴 번역시…권천학 '사랑은 꽃몸살' 송고시간 | 2016/02/15 15:08 (서울=연합뉴스) 김보경 기자 = "쉰 서너 살쯤엔/ 서리에도 지워지지 않는 시 한 편 갖고 싶어요/ 그리고 나서 또 다시 긴 꿈을 꾸며/ 당신의 꽃밭에서 목숨의 용수 박아/ 더욱 말갛게 내리고 싶어요" ('꽃의 자서전' 중)   캐나다에서 활동 중인 중견작가 권천학이 영한대역 시집 '사랑은 꽃몸살'(영문제목 Love is the Pain of Feverish Flowers)을 펴냈다. 책은 시화집 형태로 국내외에서 동시 출간됐다. 전체기사 본문배너 시집에는 2008년 미국 하버드대가 주최한 민 챕북 번역대회에서 우승한 번역시 17편이 실렸다. 이청초 화백이 시에서 받은 영감을 토대로 그림을 그렸다. 권 시인은 황혼을 바라보는 나이에도 지칠 줄 모르는 사람과 삶, 시에 대한 갈망을 시 곳곳에 녹였다. 그가 한글로 쓰고, 딸인 김하나가 번역한 시들은 민 챕북 번역대회에서 우승하며 심사위원들로부터 "모든 출품작 중에서 가장 강하고 돋보이는 작품"이라는 평가를 받았다. 김하나는 현재 캐나다 브리티시콜롬비아대(UBC) 아시아도서관장으로 재직 중이다. 1987년 '현대문학'으로 등단한 권 시인은 2008년 캐나다로 이주한 이후에도 활발한 활동을 해왔다. 그는 2010년 경희해외동포문학상 대상, 작년 국제작가네트워크 올해의 수훈상을 받았다. 또 평화를 주제로 한 북미 문인들의 합동시집 '뮤즈 포 월드 피스 앤솔로지'(Muse for World Peace Anthology)에도 참여했다. 권 시인은 시집을 출간하며 "예순 넘어서는 글만 쓰며 살고 싶다는 꿈을 이뤘다"며 "이제 해외에 한국 문학을 소개하겠다는 남다른 포부가 생겼다"고 밝혔다.
